4MT Tripper Upgrade
High Grade Plant Tripper Catenary System
CLIENT
Pilbara Mining Client
PROJECT DURATION
12 months from September 2024
PROJECT SUMMARY
Tasman Power was engaged to deliver a comprehensive upgrade to the High Grade Plant Tripper Catenary System for a major Pilbara mining client in Western Australia. Valued at $3.5 million and spanning 12months from September 2024, this critical project involved working within a live iron ore operation. The scope included demolition, structural, mechanical, electrical, instrumentation and control (EI&C), and SCADA integration works. Operating in a high-risk, operational environment required meticulous planning and a phased approach to minimise downtime. The upgrade focused on enhancing reliability, operational efficiency, and safety, while ensuring production continuity throughout. This project exemplifies Tasman Power’s ability to deliver complex, multi disciplinary solutions safely and effectively
SERVICES PROVIDED
Services provided included safe demolition and removal of outdated infrastructure, structural works to support new installations, and mechanical replacement of catenary rails with seamless joints to prevent nuisance tripping. Lubrication piping systems were designed, fabricated, and installed to enhance reliability. Electrical, instrumentation, and control (EI&C) services covered the integration and commissioning of new MCC/PLC systems, while SCADA upgrades enabled centralised monitoring and improved process control. Additional specialist services included electrical and instrumentation trades, process control engineering, lubrication services, fibre optic termination, mechanical works, crane operations, advanced rigging, structural, scaffolding, and rope access support.
CHALLENGES & SOLUTIONS
Working within an active iron ore plant posed significant logistical and safety challenges. Maintaining continuous operations while upgrading critical infrastructure demanded a staged approach, detailed scheduling, and close collaboration with plant operators.
Guided by core values of People and Exemplary Service, Tasman Power’s collaborative and flexible approach ensured challenges were addressed swiftly, maintaining project momentum and safeguarding operational integrity.
Key solutions included:
- Phased execution to minimise operational disruptions.
- Strict safety protocols to protect personnel and assets.
- Proactive engagement with stakeholders to mitigate long lead-time procurement risks.
- Early post-award inspections to identify and resolve design issues before order placement, allowing early escalation and timely resolution.
